Award-Winning German Lagers Brewed in New Prague, MN
At Giesenbräu Bier Co., the bier on tap is the whole point. Since opening in October 2017, we have built our lineup around a simple idea: make bier-flavored beer. That means traditional lager varieties brewed with intention, Bavarian wheat ales fermented the right way, and a handful of modern craft styles that prove the two worlds can coexist. Our core lineup has earned recognition at the Minnesota Brewers Cup across multiple years, and every pour reflects the same commitment to substance over trend that started this brewery. Pull up a stool, check the taps, and find your new regular.
Hildy's Helles
Munich Lager | 5.2 ABV

2023 Minnesota Brewers Cup 1st place award winner for Pale Lager. This light, refreshing, crisp traditional Munich Lager is named after our Bavarian mom who once told us "Helles ist doch medizin!" (Helles is medicine). It's our original flagship bier and a staple in our taproom.

Bavarian Gangsta

German IPA | 7.0 ABV

2023 Minnesota Brewers Cup 2nd place award winner for American IPA. Zee Germans are not historically known for their IPAs but they grow some really great hops for them, so we used all German hops in this IPA. Featuring Hallertau Blanc and Mandarina Bavaria, expect notes of mandarin, grapefruit, pineapple, and white wine grape. 72 IBU

Frickin Scruggly

Double IPA | 11.3% ABV

Named after Erin's unkempt beard, this DIPA delivers a symphony of honey, and biscuit malts upfront, quickly followed by a bold, lingering hop presence that delivers dank, citrusy, and piney complexities from healthy doses of Falconers Flight and Chinook hops. Despite its strength, Frickin' Scruggly maintains a surprising drinkability, making it a truly satisfying, full-bodied experience. 127 IBUS

The Rotating Tap

FRESH CRAFT BEER FLAVORS, ALWAYS CHANGING

With up to 15 taps pouring at any given time, Giesenbräu keeps a dedicated portion of the lineup reserved for rotating craft beer flavors that reflect the season. Our flagship biers hold their place year-round, but the seasonal taps are where the brewers get to experiment within the boundaries of traditional technique. You might find a Märzen-inspired amber lager in the fall, a lighter wheat-forward pour in the summer, or a darker, roasty style when the temperatures drop. Every seasonal release is brewed on-site in New Prague and crafted to complement what's already on the board, not compete with it.

Got Questions?

Brew Prague: Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes Hildy's Helles different from other light lagers on the market?

Hildy's Helles is a Munich Helles style beer brewed to traditional German standards, not a generic light lager. It clocks in at 5.2% ABV and 18 IBU, meaning it is low on bitterness but full of the clean, malt-forward character that defines the style. It won 1st Place at the 2023 Minnesota Brewers Cup and 2nd Place in 2021, both in the Pale Lager category. That kind of third-party recognition is hard to fake, and it reflects the care that goes into every batch brewed here in New Prague.
  • How many beers does Giesenbräu have on tap at any given time?

Giesenbräu supports up to 15 taps, which allows the taproom to pour a mix of core flagship styles alongside rotating seasonals. The flagship lineup includes Hildy's Helles, Giesen Weisse, Radler, Spaceballs the Milk Stout, 31 Hour Pale Ale, Bavarian Gangsta, Frickin Scruggly, and Nová Praha Med. Seasonal and rotating styles fill the remaining handles throughout the year. The best way to see what is currently pouring is to check the live tap list via Brewbill.
  • Is the Radler a traditional style, or is it just a flavored beer?

The Radler has genuine roots in German brewing culture. The name comes from the German word for cyclist, and the drink was traditionally mixed to give long-distance riders a refreshing, lower-impact option. At Giesenbräu, the Radler is made by blending Hildy's Helles with lemon-lime soda, landing at 5.4% ABV. It is a legitimate style with history behind it, not a flavored novelty. If you find most IPAs too bitter or want something lighter on a warm day, this is a solid choice.
  • What sets the Bavarian Gangsta apart from a typical American IPA?

The Bavarian Gangsta is Giesenbräu's take on a German IPA, a style that uses 100% German hops instead of the American varieties most breweries reach for. It features Hallertau Blanc and Mandarina Bavaria hops, which give it a different character than a typical West Coast or New England IPA. At 7.0% ABV and 72 IBU, it has real hop presence, but the German hops bring a slightly more refined bitterness. It earned 2nd Place at the 2023 Minnesota Brewers Cup, showing it holds up well against the broader craft beer field.
  • Can I take Giesenbräu beer home after my visit?

Yes, crowlers are available for purchase at the taproom. You can pick up your favorite from the flagship lineup or grab a seasonal pour to enjoy at home. Specific pricing for to-go options is best confirmed directly with taproom staff. It is a convenient way to keep the craft lager brewery experience going after your visit, especially if you find a style you want to have on hand for the week.
